Encyclopedia - Antonov An-14/An-28

The Antonov An-14 was designed as a STOL freighter/feederliner, with handling characteristics which would make it possible to be flown by inexperienced pilots. Although design started in 1957, it was not until 1965 that the first aircraft went into service.

The development of the turboprop-powered An-28 Cash was even slower than that of its predecessor. It was announced in 1967 that development had started, but it was not until September that the prototype first took to the skies. It was powered by two TVD-850 turboprops, each rated at 604kW (810shp). The fuselage was stretched to accommodate 15 passengers.

Both the An-14 and the An-28 have the same pod-and-boom layout, allowing for easy loading of freight. The high wing has full-span double-slotted flaps and slats, with ailerons in the outer flap sections.
