Encyclopedia - CASA C-212 Aviocar
The Spanish Air Force issued a requirement for a twin-turboprop general-purpose transport to replace their ageing DC-3's, Ju-52's and CASA C-207's. The result was the CASA C-212 Aviocar which first flew in prototype form 26 March 1971. The second prototype flew in October 1971, and the Spanish Air Force ordered eight pre-production aircraft. More than 5 different version of the C-212 have been produced.
Military operators include : Spain, Chile, Indonesia, Jordan, Nicaragua, Portugal and South Africa. Civilian roles include : VIP transport, general-purpose transport, air ambulance etc.
