Orville and Wilbur Wright make the first sustained, powered flight in a heavier-than-air vehicle at Kitty Hawk NC. The 12-second flight covered a mere 120 feet. Three more flights were performed on this day, the longest being 69 seconds covering a distance of 850 feet.
